Aluminium 2017 is a heat-treatable alloy that contains around 3.5–4.5% copper, 0.4–1.0% manganese, 0.4–0.8% magnesium, along with trace amounts of silicon, iron, and zinc. It boasts high strength and excellent machinability. The mechanical properties typically feature a tensile strength ranging from 430–490 MPa, yield strength between 275–380 MPa, and elongation of 10–15%, depending on the temper (like T4 or T6). While it’s not as corrosion-resistant as some other aluminum alloys, 2017 performs admirably when anodized or coated, making it a great choice for structural parts that face moderate mechanical and environmental stress.
