Hastelloy C22 is a nickel-chromium-molybdenum alloy known for its exceptional corrosion resistance. Its typical makeup consists of 56% nickel, 20–22.5% chromium, 12.5–14.5% molybdenum, 2.5–3.5% tungsten, along with trace amounts of iron, cobalt, and other elements. This alloy showcases impressive mechanical properties, boasting a tensile strength of around 690 MPa, a yield strength of about 310 MPa, and an elongation exceeding 45%. It provides remarkable resistance to pitting, crevice corrosion, and stress corrosion cracking, even in harsh oxidizing and reducing environments. Hastelloy C22 retains its strength and ductility across a broad temperature range, making it perfect for demanding industrial applications.

Yes, Hastelloy C22 can be forged into custom shapes, as it has good formability and strength at elevated temperatures. However, it requires precise control during the forging process to maintain its properties.
The ideal temperature range for forging Hastelloy C22 is between 2,100°F (1,150°C) and 2,300°F (1,260°C). This ensures optimal formability and minimizes the risk of damaging the material's properties.
The forging process for Hastelloy C22 typically takes several minutes to hours, depending on the complexity and size of the part. The heating and cooling cycles also influence the total time required for forging.
Hastelloy C22 forgings find extensive use in industries dealing with highly corrosive materials. Typical applications include chemical reactors, heat exchangers, valves, and pumps within the chemical processing and petrochemical fields. The alloy’s ability to withstand strong oxidizers and reducing agents makes it ideal for flue gas scrubbers, waste treatment systems, and acid manufacturing. Additionally, it is utilized in marine settings, pharmaceutical production, and nuclear waste processing.
