About 18–20% chromium, 8–10.5% nickel, and iron make up the base element of stainless steel 304 flat bars and rods, with trace amounts of manganese, silicon, and carbon. This grade of austenitic stainless steel has outstanding resistance to oxidation and corrosion. Mechanically, it offers elongation of up to 40%, yield strength of 205–250 MPa, and tensile strength of approximately 515–750 MPa. The alloy is appropriate for a variety of load-bearing and structural applications in a range of environments due to its good toughness, weldability, and formability.
