With iron as the base, stainless steel 316L rectangular bars have a maximum carbon content of 0.03%, along with chromium (16–18%), nickel (10–14%), and molybdenum (2–3%). Mechanically, 316L bars have an approximate elongation of 40%, a yield strength of 170 MPa, and a tensile strength of 485 MPa.
