Stainless Steel 347 Forgings are crafted from a stabilized austenitic stainless steel that contains approximately 17-19% chromium, 9-13% nickel, and columbium (niobium) to prevent carbide precipitation. This unique composition ensures exceptional resistance to intergranular corrosion in high-temperature environments. Typically, these forgings exhibit a tensile strength of around 515 MPa, a yield strength of about 205 MPa, and an elongation of nearly 40%. They also maintain impressive creep and stress rupture properties at temperatures reaching up to 900°C, along with good weldability, making them perfect for high-temperature, pressure-bearing applications.

Stainless Steel 347 forgings have limitations in extreme temperatures above 1600°F (870°C), susceptibility to stress corrosion cracking in chloride environments, and reduced formability compared to some other stainless steel grades.
The forging temperature range for Stainless Steel 347 is typically between 2100°F (1149°C) and 2200°F (1204°C). It ensures optimal grain structure and mechanical properties for high-performance applications.
Stainless Steel 347 forgings require minimal maintenance, primarily periodic cleaning to remove contaminants. Regular inspection for corrosion or wear is recommended, along with ensuring proper lubrication for moving parts in harsh environments.
These Stainless Steel 347 Forgings find extensive use in situations that require high strength, excellent mechanical properties, and dependable corrosion resistance during prolonged exposure to high temperatures. They’re commonly found in chemical processing equipment, heat exchangers, refinery piping, furnace components, and high-temperature gaskets. Additionally, these forgings are utilized in aircraft exhaust systems, superheater and reheater tubing, and welded pressure vessels where resistance to sensitization is vital. The stabilized nature of SS 347 makes it an ideal choice for components subjected to severe thermal cycling, ensuring structural integrity and a long service life in challenging industrial settings.
