Chromium (12–14%), carbon (0.15%), manganese (1.25%), silicon (1%), sulphur (0.15–0.35%), and iron make up the base of the martensitic, free-machining stainless steel known as Stainless Steel 416 Flat Bar. Sulphur greatly improves machinability. It has a 15% elongation, a 275–500 MPa yield strength, and a 550–760 MPa tensile strength. Particularly after heat treatment, 416 shows good hardness and moderate corrosion resistance. Its exceptional machinability makes it perfect for precision manufacturing and high-speed machining operations, even though it is not as corrosion-resistant as austenitic grades.
