431 Stainless Steel Bars and rods are made of martensitic stainless steel alloys with iron as the base and chromium (15–17%), nickel (1.25–2.5%), and low carbon (~0.2%). After heat treatment, they provide exceptional hardness, tensile strength (~850 MPa), and yield strength (~620 MPa). In mildly corrosive environments, these bars continue to exhibit good corrosion resistance. Because of its high impact toughness and moderate ductility, SS 431 is appropriate for high-stress applications. It offers a balance of strength, corrosion resistance, and machinability and is magnetic by nature. It can also be hardened by heat treatment.
