Titanium Grade 5 (Ti-6Al-4V), known by its UNS designation R56400, is an alpha-beta alloy that consists of 6% aluminum, 4% vanadium, and the rest titanium. It’s recognized for its outstanding mechanical strength and resistance to corrosion. This alloy boasts a tensile strength of around 895 MPa, a yield strength of about 828 MPa, and an elongation of 10–15%. With a density of 4.43 g/cm³, it holds its structural integrity even at high temperatures (up to 400°C). Grade 5 is much stronger than commercially pure titanium while still being easy to weld and machine, making it perfect for high-stress applications.

Titanium Grade 5 Forgings find extensive use in the aerospace industry for structural components, engine parts, and landing gear, thanks to their remarkable strength and lightweight nature. In defense, they play a crucial role in armor plating, missile systems, and military aircraft. The medical field relies on Grade 5 for orthopedic implants, surgical instruments, and dental devices due to its biocompatibility and resistance to fatigue. In marine and offshore applications, these forgings are utilized for shafts, valves, and pump components that are exposed to corrosive seawater.
